School Lunch Program
Welcome to St. Malachy School’s Nutrition and School Lunch Program!
School Lunch
St. Malachy School has two lunch periods:
1st Lunch: 11:25 to 11:50 p.m.
2nd Lunch: 12:05 to 12:30 p.m.
Students may either bring a cold lunch or buy a school lunch. If buying school lunch, students can order a hot lunch or an alternate lunch.
For example, a hot lunch might be super nachos, corn & black bean salad, grape tomatoes, pineapple, and a white or chocolate milk
An alternate lunch may be a turkey munchable with the sides listed above, plus a white or chocolate milk
Parents can pay for school lunch via CASH or a CHECK made out to District #228 (or through Skyward if an older child has a Skyward account). Lunch money rolls over from one year to the next.
To give you an idea, during the 2025-2026 school year:
School lunch is $3.80
Additional milks are $0.50 each
Doubles are an extra $3.00 (only available to grades 3-6)
There is also an application for free and reduced lunch here:
Each summer, St. Malachy will also alert school families to the Summer Nutrition Program.
Parent Lunch Helpers
Each year, Parents Club will ask for parent volunteers for the lunch room. All volunteers must complete the Safe Environment Training. Please see the webpage about volunteers if you are interested in helping in the lunchroom.
Allergies
St. Malachy School does not enforce a policy restricting foods that may be brought to school; however, several current students do have food allergies.
Here is a list of recommended school safe snacks for your consideration; however, it is not mandatory that families provide snacks: Download Safe Snacks guide here.
As required by state law, students may self carry and self-administer drugs for the treatment of asthma, diabetes, or serious allergies, provided that the parent has submitted their consent in writing as well as a written authorization for the student’s physician. The authorization from the student’s physician shall include the student’s name, the name and purpose of the medication and/or epinephrine auto-injector, the prescribed dosage, and the time or circumstances under which the medication or epinephrine auto-injector is to be used. The school reserves the right to restrict self carry and self administration of medication for asthma, diabetes, or serious allergies to certain grade levels and/or ages of students.
