Welcome to St. Malachy's Jr. High Youth Ministry

October: The Rock

Here we are already into the month of October. October brings about many things...the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Respect Life Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Month of the Holy Rosary, Halloween, etc. It also is bring about change. Not only change in the weather as we see cooler nights, but change in the name of the 7th and 8th Grade Youth Ministry.
The youth have decided to call the group "The Rock" based off of Psalm 18:2, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." We will continue to lean on Christ, our rock. The students also have decided to entrust this group to the patronage of St. Patrick and St. Teresa of Calcutta. We will learn more about these two beautiful saints as the year goes on.

I'm very excited about all that we've accomplished so far with this group. We consistently have 8-10 members attending each week. We've participated in our first service project where we were able to put together 83 mini layettes for the Christ Child Society gave the layettes to the Women's Choice Center in B
ettendorf who gives them women when they receive a positive pregnancy test as a way of giving hope that they do have support to carry their baby to full term whether or not they keep the child or give him/her up for adoption. In addition to the 83 mini layettes, we put togehter 30 literacy packets that the Christ Child Society will give out to child attending the Pumpkin Festival for Head Start in Rock Island later this month.

We will also have another service project this month where we make rosaries for the residents of the nursing home and join forces with members of Oasis to record a DVD of the rosary for the residents.
Please continue to encourage your 7th and/or 8th grader to attend. We will have some social times as well as times of prayer and service. We meet each week on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 PM in the Youth R

Loving and Generous God,
it is You who call us by name
and ask us to follow You.

Give us the energy and courage
of Your Spirit
to shape its future
Grant us faith-filled leaders
who will embrace Christ’s Mission
of love and justice.
Bless St. Malachy’s
